Indicators for monitoring genetic diversity in a global context

Genetic diversity is the foundation of biodiversity and is essential for the resilience and adaptability of populations, species and ecosystems.

On January 18th, 2024, The European Commission's Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity organized a webinar where speakers from the CCG, G-BiKE and GEO BON shared the results of a large, multinational project where new cost-effective indicators for monitoring genetic diversity were implemented according to recently adopted international agreements. The indicators were assessed for 919 taxa, representing 5,271 populations across nine countries.
